In this video the speaker talks about how silence is dangerous and how he has been silent by ignoring the homeless, and letting his friend be based for because he is gay. What he is trying to tell us is that being silent when you disagree with something or have thoughts, gives off the impression that you agree with what is happening and are okay with the situation. Clint's tone of voice and how fast he talks in his speech gives off a very powerful message, and shows how he feels about silence in a poetic way. I think the overall message he is trying to portray in his speech is that you should should never be silent when you have thoughts or feelings that should be shared.

I agree that Clint's tone of voice and speed comes off as very poetic, especially towards the middle when he picks up his speed and is talking about different instances where he bit his tongue instead of speaking the truth. I thought that was very powerful and moving.

i agree with Delaney. It is necessary for us to voice our opinion and let it be known to others that something happening might not be okay. The example of the gay man being ridiculed and Clint remaining silent stood out to me as i feel most people have been in a situation where they wanted to stand up for someone but didn't have the confidence. It can cause even greater harm when we remain silent and by speaking up we can have a positive effect on an individual. His passion on the subject really stood out and made me take notice.

i agree with Delaney that that it gives off the feeling that you approve about what is happening and that is dangerous because if everyone never said anything nothing would ever be done to fix the wrong in the world.

Clint Smith does a great job with his introduction by using a quote by Martin Luther King, Jr and relating it to his own life and his speech. Additionally, he lets the audience know he is concluding his speech by slowing down the speed at which he is talking.

During this speech, Clint Smith explains the importance of utilizing our voice and the danger of being silent. In the video, he brings up specific instances where he bit his tongue instead of speaking the truth, and how he regrets not talking. One example I found really moving is when a lady at a fundraising gala said she was proud of him for teaching poor, unintelligent kids. Clint says that he wishes he stood up for his students, but the school needed her money. I think this brings up an issue in our everyday life where people are willing to stay silent in order to get what they want. They will choose getting what they want rather than fighting for what they believe in.

I agree 100% Sarah! I loved when Clint says that he wishes he stood up for his students instead of biting his tongue and using his power to rise above. I think also that people should have a combination of listening and fighting the battles that need to be won.

I agree with Sara, I really like how in the introduction he uses a quote from Martin Luther King Jr. and how he relates it back to his life. The speed of his voice keeps the listener listening and intrigued in what he is saying and I liked how he slowed down towards the end of his speech while he gave his conclusion.

I agree with Delaney, that his voice powerful. His voice makes me want to listen and actually hear the words that he is saying. If Clint was quiet and not passionate about his words, no one would listen to him. If we are silent, we can't try to change someones day. We can't help those in need with silence and we can't share our stories or get help. Silence won't bring change to things that are important to us, so as Clint says, we need to speak up so we won't regret it.

The power in his voice is very key to the way we understand his message. The way he shifted the tone of his voice and the rate that he spoke, really kept me intrigued and wanting to hear what he had to say. It helps keep the speech from being boring, and like Sarah Theel said, it was a good way to let the audience know he was concluding by talking slower. You could tell from the way he presented the speech that he was very passionate and knows it's important to speak your mind.

Clint has a very compelling voice and he knows how to use it well when emphasizing what he wants to be heard. The way he presented examples in such a strong manner is what gave the audience so much weight as he spoke because he made them feel like what he was saying was important. The way he incorporated all the examples he used at the end in a fast paced, passionate manner is what really grabbed your attention and called forth the importance of his message

Ignoring issues is very damaging, like Sarah said. Not only is ignoring the homeless worrying, Clint Smith emphasizes the ignorance of people and their diets. Refusing to acknowlage important aspects of our lives can have lasting negative effects on our future.

I agree with Sarah's comment about the quote at the beginning of the speech. I really like how he used that quote to introduce the theme of his argument. I also agree with Delaney's point that you should always speak your thoughts and feelings. In a world with so many different voices and point of views, it's easy to feel like your opinion doesn't matter. Your voice is just as important and valuable as any other voice and you have the right to express that voice. Speaking is a right not a privilege.

I agree with Sofi's comment about how speaking should be a right, not a privilege. This speaker highlights the meaning of silence and continues to show its importance throughout his speech proving that the worst words are those never spoken. It is often times much easier to bite your tongue, to avoid arguments, to prevent shame or forego offending others. We need to use our words to bring about change, silence hinders progress and our voices are our most powerful weapon.

The speech starts off by Clint quoting Martin Luther King Jr. on silence during the Civil Rights Movement. He then goes on to relate it to his own life. Using the quote at the beginning helps keep the viewer engaged because it gives them an idea of what he's gonna talk about, but it makes them want to hear what else he has to say. I agree with what Hilary said about how his voice helps us understand his message and his passion. It is a short speech but very powerful. He does a good job of keeping the audience engaged and of getting his point across. I really like how he gives examples of ways that silence has been a problem not only in the world, but also in his own life.

I really liked how Clint Smith used a quote from Martin Luther King and then described how that effected him and how he applies that to his life and teachings. He gave up many material things and without a voice he learned how to be his own and appeases ignorance and never spoke out against the corruption. He used a lot of metaphors and alliteration to show his passion to everyone that needs to hear his voice.

The conclusion of Smiths speech was him stating why he should not have been silent in his life, it also indirectly says that we should act that way. I think Delaney's comment about how if you are being silent about something it gives off the impression that you agree with it is right on the dot. Smith is stating that silence is dangerous and that paying attention to what you don't say is as important to paying attention to what you see, and that you should realize when being silent is wrong.

I agree with Delaney. I agree that his message is to not be afraid to speak up. Don't let your fears hold you back from being real and telling the truth. It may not be what you want to hear all the time but hearing the brutal truth is way better than hearing a comforting lie. Clint's tone of voice really motivates the audience, it makes you be engaged and you have a thirst to learn more. I think Clint did a great job with his speech. I believe that people do need to be educated with the importance of speaking up.

I agree with Kainani, although I don't think he is only talking about just telling the truth but to just speak up. Many times we will not say bad things, but we would also not say good ones, and our silence is just as bad.
