Watergate scandal where Nixon's aides to re-elect him broke into the Democratic National Committee’s Watergate headquarters, bugged the phones, and stole top-secret documents and later got caught red handed to then be covered up. Later Nixon becomes paranoid and discharges his closest aids for being involved in this incident, becomes more vulnerable, gives three speeches throughout the whole scandal until he resigns and gave the prestige of the presidency a bad name. If Nixon had been more honest and less paranoid he would have been able to convince the American people to trust him but he failed in his ethos.

I agree with Brittny. Nixon's ethos went out the window when he began covering the scandal up. Honesty is a huge part of ethos and Nixon could have achieved it had he not been so insecure about what had happened at the DNC. When he resigned as president, that also added to his lack of ethos because it was him giving up on the american people in a sense.

I agree with Brittny about Nixon losing his ethos. The president is someone we should be able to trust, but Nixon lost that trust through this historical scandal. He lost his credibility and good moral character by resorting to illegal tactics as Brittny stated already.

I agree with both Brittny and Sarah. The president is someone we put into power because we trust them to lead our country, so when they commit a scandal, it removes all trust and makes the voter feel used. The people of America felt betrayed and became outraged that a president would do something like that. Ethos is vital for a president and because of Watergate, Nixon's Ethos was destroyed.

I think Brinley is spot on when she says Nixon's ethos was destroyed. The circumstances of Watergate too me is frustrating because Nixon was going to win the election anyway. There was no reason for him to tape the phones, he couldn't be elected again, it was already his second term. He was an effective president before the scandal and there was no point for this to even happen. He ruined his career for more votes. He compromised his ethics for the sake of no real reason. Despite everything he did in his career he will always be seen as dishonest and a liar and it discredits all the endeavors he would ever have hoped for in the future of his term and the future of America.

I agree with Brinley on the point that by partaking in watergate the people of America would lose all trust in Nixon. Ethos are very important and if the citizens see their president, of all people ,participating in scandals such as these they may not feel confident in voting again in the future. This was a really unnecessary thing to do and really tarnishes his reputation in history.

I agree with Brinley and Lindsay because there was no reason for him to go to such measures because getting caught would ruin his career, which it did. The amount of trust that he lost from his nation was not worth the trouble because like Lindsay said, he was going to win presidency anyway. I just feel like he ruined his life the moment he started the scandal.

I agree with both Brittany and Sarah. President Nixon lost his ethos as a result of this scandal. As Sarah stated he also lost his credibility because the people could no longer put their trust in someone who is apart of a huge scandal. On top of that he tries to cover it up and not turn over tapes that have evidence of this scandal, which makes things worse for him. A president is a very powerful person who the people should be able to put their trust in, but when something like this happens, where his ethos is destroyed, the people are not going to be very happy. Therefore, the best thing to do was resign.

I agree with Brinley. I would not have trusted him as president and I think may others wouldn't either. Nixon's ethos did go out of the door. He dug a bigger hole for himself. It is honestly sad that he ruined his career because he wanted the most votes. This scandal went farther than it should have. Nixon did let America down and I am sure he never forgot that.

I agree with most of the people that commented. I believe president Nixon did not follow or have a code of ethos and that is one of the reasons people lost trust in him throughout the watergate scandal. It is unfortunate this happened because he was leading the race for presidency.

I agree with Ashley when she stated that she would not have trusted him as a president, because I wouldn't have trusted him either. President Nixon completely lost his ethos when he began covering up the scandal and lying to his followers. Presidency is a powerful position that requires responsibility and trust. President Nixon abused his position of power and betrayed his followers, and I don't think he could have rebuilt this trust. I agree with Delaney, the best thing to do was resign.

I also agree with Brinley, when she describes how we weren't able to trust him due to his lack of ethos. President Nixon didn't need to do the things that he did- it was uncalled for.
