From what I gathered in the video, telling a story or listening to it is the important part, not the quality of the story. A story might not be "worth" telling in the grand scale of things, such as by its historical context; but for the people engaged in the conversation, and the people listening to it, it is. There's a lesson in that story, a moral, that can be carried to the next generations and can change someones life, even if it is just one person.

I agree with Brittny that for anybody engaged in the conversation, the story being told is important. Not only that, but by having the courage to share your story, you are actively trying to relate to people, just as they are trying to relate to you. Your story has the opportunity to help somebody that is struggling or experiencing what you had experienced and to let them know they are not alone.

I agree with Brittney and Masha that its not so much the importance or impact of our stories in the great expanse of time/history but more the effect of our stories on others and the importance of existing to others. Our stories can inspire and invoke strong emotion it can change peoples out looks on life it can bring a sense of importance to those who feel unimportant and bring a richness and knowledge to others lives. not only that I also believe that the combination of all the telling of our stories effects future generations thus having a small but important ripple effect that acts as one large wave, instead of each person's individual story.

The last sentence of Masha's thoughts are what I essentially gathered from this TED Talk and I feel is really emphasized in the concept of StoryCorps. There are billions of people on this planet and any problem that a person is facing, is most likely someone else's problem as well. Some who has experienced a certain struggle in their life can share it with the world and this can help others who are going through the same situation. Everyone has had bad experiences growing up as a child whether it would be a tantrum over a toy or a bad experience with some friends and these things are common among all children; so why would would other difficulties in life be different from that. You are not alone. Someone else has made it through the same struggle you are facing now, and here is the proof.

I agree with everything that has been said, but I like what William said that there is no difference between the tiny and large struggles in life that people may have in common. The thing I gathered most from this TED talk is that everybody has a story and you cannot judge a person by the outside until you know that story of theirs that they maybe do not tell just anyone. Speaking to others and listening to others is so important because that is when you truly get to know one another.

I agree with William that people from all over the world can benefit from hearing the stories of others. The most important message that I took way from this TED Talk was that everyone has a message to be shared and no matter what it may be, it is important in some shape or form. Even when you believe that your story is pointless, it may have much meaning to someone else. Being interviewed and getting to share your story with loved ones, helps you open up and talk about things you may have been holding back. I believe that it is important for everyone to realize that their stories should never go unnoticed because acknowledging them and sharing them, could change the lives of others who relate to them.

I agree with Masha that sharing your story has the potential to benefit others. I love the concept that by simply telling stories about your life you can positively benefit those around you. Reflecting on the past and sharing your experiences is vital to prevent repeated mistakes and history and is vital to pass on your legacy to future generations. We all have the ability to impact not only our loved ones but even our surrounding community, simply through the telling of stories.

I like what Masha has said that everybody is trying to relate each other and story telling can be an effective forum for us to share our thoughts and in some way impact another individuals life. Story telling can be a very powerful way to reach out to other people and allow us as a community to learn from our past experiences and provide support for those in similar situations. The way we tell our story is also important and is an key factor in determining the how people will interpret it

I agree with Brittny. Someone who shares their story can impact many people in many different ways. Their story can even open new things for themselves. A story can help others learn, help open someone else's heart, or even inspire someone to share their story. Listening to a person's story can help others understand them better and connect on a personal level.

I agree with William, especially when he talks about how we all have similar struggles that we can share with our peers and learn from. I think that being more open with our friends and loved ones can lead to a more fulfilling relationship, as well as help us develop a sense of community that makes us feel less alone. These interviews show listeners something that is raw and real, rather than a typical celebrity interview. These interviews are a tool that can be used to appreciate someone's life, as well as recognize their importance. They bring light to untold emotions that can change the speakers relationship, as well as inspire listeners.

I agree with William and Sarah. I think that knowing and being able to share stories about events that have happened in peoples lives is very important. Story Corps is very interesting and unique to me as well. I find it very fulfilling to know that when someone records their stories and are able to sit down and have the time to share one on one wit someone they love, that the story is saved and can be brought back whenever someone needs to be boosted up because they are struggling. Also, the fact that all of the stories become relatable and helpful to many is very impactful on peoples lives.

I think that everyone that has posted is focusing on the individual experience of the Story Corps. Mosha, William, and Hilary comment on the courage and strength it takes to spread such stories and how influential they can be for the people who listen to them and I wholeheartedly agree, however I believe that the most powerful aspect of this revolution in communication comes from looking at the application as a whole. It is the vast, breathtaking belief that people at their roots are good. People no matter their mistakes or their life choices have goodness. Color, race, gender creed, the foundation of humanity is the innate goodness that shines through in the presence of this application. It gives hope for the future of our world.

I agree with what everyone said about how telling your story can impact many people in different ways. Everyone is different and hearing people's stories can help you relate to them or understand them better. I also think that we can sometimes have opinions about certain things but hearing people's stories can help us be less judgmental and become more open-minded. We can connect with people and understand them better through hearing their stories.

I agree with what Lindsay is saying. The concept and foundation of Story Corps is the goodness found in people. Because people will hear that others struggle with the same basic or complex problems, bringing a sense of unity among themselves to William's point. Overall, I think this is a great program because it can cast a ray of hope which can empower people and bring us closer to a world where racism and prejudice is only found in textbooks and history.

I agree with Masha, I believe that the stories people tell can help those people who are facing similar struggles. It makes people feel like they are not facing an obstacle alone, its almost as if they have a support group after they have a chance to hear other peoples stories about their obstacles and life experiences. I feel like being able to share stories helps people get the courage to face their battles or to try and shoot for their dreams. It helps to hear people going through similar experiences because it gives you strength and courage to move on.

I also agree with Brittny. I believe that every story being told is meaningful and powerful no matter what the topic is. You never truly know someone until they tell their story, but to know their story you must listen. Listening is a big factor wen someone is telling you a story. If you're not paying attention the person expressing their feelings will help disrespected and hurt. In addition, as Brittny said, there is always a lesson or moral in that story that can be carried to the next generation.

The main thing I took away from this video is the idea that listening is a very important component of story telling, just as Kainani pointed out. Listening is how we intake information around us. It's how we make connections and relate our own experiences to the experiences of others. I think sometimes we forget the importance and the benefits of listening. Through listening we can better understand the world around us and reduce the number of misunderstandings.

Dave Isay has a mission that i really admire, he seems to to truly believe that what he is doing will have a profound impact on the world. The story that people tell about themselves isn't about whether or not their life was good or bad, but more of the fact that this is part of their life that they want to share. Dave said that he wanted this to become a part of everyone so that grandchildren can learn about their ancestors that they have never met, that to me is a mission worth having.
